The background

In 2021, our hometown of Glasgow played host to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference – otherwise known as COP26. The conference took place at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) from 31st October – 12th November, bringing together 120 world leaders and over 40,000 participants to discuss key climate issues and accelerate vital action.

The brief

Material was appointed as Creative Lead for COP26’s Green Zone, a public-facing space which offered youth groups, artists, academia and businesses to host events, exhibitions, workshops and talks. Our team were tasked with transforming the Glasgow Science Centre into a visually compelling, immersive experience consistent with the overarching COP26 brand.

What we did

Our work encompassed the audience journey, venue dressing, experiential installations, delegate stands and digital content. A key focus was to deliver the event with the lowest environmental impact possible. This allowed us to develop a wealth of knowledge covering sustainable materials, sustainable suppliers and end-of-life planning that we now apply across our agency work.

As the only creative agency in Scotland to work on the delivery of COP26, we were honoured and inspired to play our part in such a globally significant event.
